Standup comedian Praneet More has been surrounded by controversies for the past few days. People are furious after seeing the indecent comments made in Praneeth’s show. Anger against Praneet is also being seen on social media. But in such a situation, Praneeth is not getting any support even from the world of standup comedy. Praneet’s own fraternity i.e. standup comedian Munnawar Faruqui has also shared posts on his social media. In these posts, Munnavar has reprimanded Praneeth and also advised him not to call his show a comedy.

The most expensive biryani?’ After this he wrote, ‘Result- Please ask Praneet More.’ This controversy started with a viral clip in which a viewer present on Praneeth’s show talked about spending Rs 370 on biryani during a date and then made some controversial statements which spread anger online. Munawwar did not stop here. He also suggested that comedians should get their content reviewed by legal experts before releasing it publicly. The comedian wrote, ‘Comedians should get their videos edited by lawyers. Not all comedians, but those few who don’t write jokes themselves and depend on the audience. The comment seemed to be a criticism of crowdwork-based comedy, in which performers often rely more on interaction with the audience rather than pre-written material.

Another post by Munawwar also caught people’s attention, which was later deleted. Taking an indirect dig at fellow comedian Samay Raina, he wrote, ‘Brother, it will be difficult to defend this biryani issue even in a comedy special.’ Many people interpreted this to mean that comedians talk about controversies or defend themselves through their stand-up specials. Munawwar further expressed his views in this debate and appealed to the people to stop calling it a comedy show. He added a new dimension to the ongoing discussion about the responsibilities of comedians and the limits of humor in public performance.

For those who don’t know, let us tell you that Praneet More got embroiled in controversy when a ‘Crowdwork’ clip of his stand-up show went viral. In this clip, a viewer named Himanshu Jangra said that he was expecting ‘physical intimacy’ after spending Rs 370 on chicken biryani on a date. People online expressed their displeasure over this and raised questions on issues like consent and hatred towards women. Praneet was also criticized because he laughed at it and called it peak Gurgaon content. This controversy further increased after another controversial clip featuring Dr. Sejal Pawar surfaced. Despite Praneet and Sejal publicly apologizing, the controversy did not subside, as a result, Praneet deactivated his Instagram account and Maharashtra Cyber Cell filed an FIR against several people associated with the matter.
