Material
- Washed or peeled moong dal: 1 cup
- Finely chopped onion: 1 medium size
- Green chillies: 2-3 (finely chopped)
- Ginger: 1 inch piece (grated)
- Green Coriander: Half cup (finely chopped)
- Whole coriander and fennel: 1 teaspoon each (coarsely ground)
- Asafoetida: 1 pinch
- Red chilli powder: half teaspoon
- Chaat masala: half teaspoon
- Salt: as per taste
- Oil: for frying
method of making
step 1 – Drain all the water from soaked moong dal. Now add lentils, ginger and green chillies in the mixer and grind them coarsely. Remember, do not use water at all while grinding or add only 1 teaspoon of water if needed. The thicker the paste, the crispier the pakodas will be.
Step 2 – Take out the ground mixture in a big vessel and beat it well with the help of hands or spoon for 2-3 minutes. This will fill the dal with air and the pakodas will become soft from inside and crunchy from outside.
Step 3 – Now add crushed whole coriander-fennel, asafoetida, red chilli powder, finely chopped onion, green coriander and salt as per taste to this mixture and mix well.
Step 4 – Now heat oil in the pan. When the oil is well heated, make small balls of pakodas and drop them in it. Reduce the gas flame to medium so that the pakodas get cooked thoroughly from inside. Fry them by turning them repeatedly until they become golden brown and crispy. After this take it out and enjoy it with tea.
