Big blow to mobile users, plans may become costlier by 12 to 15%, new report reveals

Crores of mobile phone users in the country may face a big shock in the next few months. Telecom companies can increase their tariffs by 12 to 15%. According to ANI report, telecom operators are emphasizing on increasing their average revenue per user (ARPU), which is going to impact common mobile phone users. Centrum Institution Research Firm has made this claim in its new preview report.

Tariff will increase

Telecom operators last increased their tariffs in July 2024. All three telecom operators Airtel, Jio and Vodafone Idea had increased the tariffs in 2024. Because of this the mobile tariff was increased by 25%. After almost two years, telecom companies are once again preparing to shock the mobile users. However, at present no response has been given by the telecom companies regarding this. Airtel and Vodafone-Idea have already advocated for tariff hike.

The report claims that 3+1 players are going to hike tariffs by 12 to 15 percent in the next 3 to 4 months. In this the focus has been on the financial performance of the telecom sector. In this, all three private companies are preparing to expand ARPU quarterly by 1 to 1.5 percent. Revenue is also expected to increase especially due to migration of 2G users to 4G and 5G.

Expectation of increase in subscribers

The number of subscribers of Airtel and Jio is expected to increase further in the next few months. At the same time, Vodafone-Idea will focus on expanding its 5G network. Airtel can add 5 million new subscribers every quarter. At the same time, Jio can add 7 million new users every quarter, while Vodafone Idea can add about 2 lakh i.e. 0.2 million users to its network every quarter.

It has been claimed in this report that the usage of data per users is going to increase rapidly. Both leading telecom operators Jio and Airtel have deployed 90 percent 5G networks. At the same time, Vodafone Idea is also expanding its 5G network rapidly. The telecom company is going to launch its 5G service in some more districts in the coming few months.
