If it is kept running for a long time without switching it off, it may catch fire or even explode due to excessive temperature.
Excessive pressure on outdoor unit
According to experts, if the outside temperature reaches 45-58 degrees, there is a lot of pressure on the outdoor unit of the AC. If you keep running the AC for several hours continuously in such temperatures, the heat exchange process taking place from outside may get disrupted and the compressor may overheat and explode, resulting in a fire. Apart from this, if the outdoor unit is kept in a place where the air ventilation is not proper, then the heat is not able to come out and the AC may catch fire.
Fire caused by poor electrical wiring or short circuit
If the power cords are very old, the wiring is loose or the connections are loose then sparking may occur in the AC wires and a short circuit may occur. Due to short circuit, 1.5 ton or 1 ton AC wires running in homes melt and the gas in the AC pipeline gets heated. After this, the expansion of liquid refrigerant gas inside the compressor can cause a blast.
Gas leakage can also be the reason
If the local mechanic has filled in substandard gas or there is a fault in the condenser unit, gas leakage may occur and there is a possibility of the compressor blasting.
Not taking care of AC maintenance
If the AC is not maintained every season, the filter may become dirty and the condenser coil may restrict the flow of air, which may cause the compressor to overheat.
What to do to prevent AC from catching fire
- Use the AC only after getting it serviced by professionals every summer.
- Do not keep the temperature of AC too low, it is better to run it between 24-26 degrees.
- After running continuously for 5-6 hours, switch it off for some time so that the compressor does not get too hot.
- Place some shade over the outdoor unit so that it is not exposed to sunlight all the time and does not get too hot.
- Take care of cleaning the AC filter, under which if you clean the filter every 2.5-3 weeks, it can prevent the accumulation of dust.
