According to Times of India, Sushant Rajput secured All India Rank 7 in the Delhi College of Engineering entrance exam in 2003. He enrolled in a mechanical engineering course at Delhi College of Engineering, but dropped out in the third year of college to pursue a career in acting. He was also a National Olympiad winner in Physics. He had passed a total of eleven engineering entrance exams including the entrance exam of ISM Dhanbad. In a 2017 interview with Hindustan Times, the ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’ star had revealed that engineering was not his first choice and he wanted to become an astronomer, known as astrophysicist.
