Why do crocodile attacks increase between May and July?
Manas Kumar Das, assistant forest conservator of Bhitarkanika, said that attacks by crocodiles generally increase during the breeding and nesting season between May and July, because during this time these reptiles often come to the ground to lay eggs. He said that in view of security, the Forest Department has installed barriers on about 120 ghats of the river around Bhitarkanika and has advised the villagers to use only safe waterways.
