The government has issued a warning regarding fraud being done through the fake website of IRCTC. These days cyber criminals are defrauding people by creating fake websites. Pilgrims are being cheated in the name of helicopter booking and service through fake websites. I4C, the cyber security wing of the Home Ministry, has issued a warning regarding this through its official X handle. Besides, people have also been asked to avoid this.
Fraud in the name of fake website of IRCTC
I4C Cyber Dost said through its X handle that cyber criminals can make people victims of fake travel services, helicopter booking and payment scams through fake booking websites and misleading links. People should avoid such fake websites and complain on cyber crime helpline number.
Even before this, I4C had warned people about frauds being perpetrated through fake National Cyber Crime Helpline website. Cyber criminals are trapping people by creating fake helicopter booking websites in the name of IRCTC. Baba Barfani i.e. Amarnath Yatra is starting from 3rd July. In such a situation, pilgrims are being targeted.
I4C in its post has mentioned two fake websites named irctchelicopter.com and irctchellyatra.com. Efforts are being made to cheat people through both these websites. I4C said that this is not a booking website. It is advised to stay away from these websites. Also, people are always asked to make any kind of booking through the official website only.
Keep these things in mind
- .gov.in appears at the end of the government website. In such a situation, do not trust those websites which do not have this at the end.
- Always make tourism related bookings through the website or official portal of the concerned department.
- Read the URL carefully before entering booking details. You will see mistakes in the URLs of fake websites yourself.
- Never click on links sponsored by social media and Google and do not trust them blindly.
- Do not open any link with cheap offer or urgent confirmation anywhere.
- If you notice any kind of cyber fraud, call the helpline number 1930 or report it on cybercrime.gov.in website.
