West Indies not only registered its first win by defeating Sri Lanka by a huge margin of an innings and 217 runs in the first Test, but also made a big advantage for Team India. With the victory of West Indies, Team India has moved up one place. At the same time, after the crushing defeat in the first test, the Sri Lankan team has slipped far down in the points table.
In the first match of the two-match Test series played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, host West Indies performed brilliantly in every department. After gaining a lead of 318 runs in the first innings, the Caribbean bowlers bowled out Sri Lanka’s second innings for just 101 runs and won the match by an innings and 217 runs.
West Indies got its first win
Experienced fast bowler Kemar Roach played an important role in West Indies’ victory. In the second innings, he took four wickets for 51 runs in 11 overs, while Jaden Seals sealed the victory by sending three batsmen to the pavilion. This is West Indies’ first win in the WTC 2025-27 cycle. The team has played 9 matches so far, in which it has reached eighth position with one win, one draw and seven losses.
Team India benefited
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, suffered their first defeat of the current WTC cycle. The team has played three Tests so far, in which it has won one, drawn one and lost one. After this crushing defeat, her marks percentage i.e. PCT was reduced to 44.44 and she slipped from third place to sixth place. India has got the biggest benefit from Sri Lanka’s downfall. The Indian team has now reached fifth position with a PCT of 48.15. However, Team India will still have to perform well in the upcoming Test series so that it can further strengthen its position in the race for the final.
Australia still holds the first position in the WTC points table with an impressive PCT of 87.50. South Africa remains at second position with 75.00 PCT. New Zealand is at third position while Bangladesh is at fourth position. At the same time, this cycle has been very disappointing for Pakistan so far. The team captained by Shan Masood has lost three out of four Tests and is in ninth and last place after losing eight points due to slow over rate.
