Onion is a vegetable which is commonly used in every Indian household. Its consumption increases in summer. Because it is believed that its consumption reduces the risk of heat stroke. In such a situation, while cutting onion or on the peel, you often see black spots. Many times we wash it off considering it to be soil, but the main reason behind it is fungus. These black spots seen on onion are mainly caused by a fungus named Aspergillus Niger. This fungus is usually found in the soil and when the onion is not dried properly after harvesting or is kept in a humid place, it starts growing. Most of us ignore it. Which part of the body can it damage?
If the particles of this black fungus enter the body or you consume it unknowingly, it can harm you and damage these body parts.
lungs
This is the biggest danger. The spores of this fungus can enter the lungs through breath and cause a disease called ‘aspergillosis’. This can cause difficulty breathing, cough and serious lung infection.
kidney
According to some studies, consuming moldy foods for a long time can damage the kidneys due to the toxins present in them.
Allergies
People who have weak immunity may suffer from skin allergies, eye irritation or sinus problems.

If the black spot is only on the outer peel, remove that layer completely and scrub the onion thoroughly and wash it.
