Gram flour and semolina will not get spoiled in the rain, just keep this in mind, know how to store it.

As the rainy season approaches, the humidity in the air increases significantly. This moisture proves to be the biggest enemy for the food items kept in the kitchen, especially gram flour and semolina. In this season, semolina and gram flour often get cobwebs, insects get attached to them or they stick together and turn into lumps. This problem is seen in every house. If you are also troubled by this problem every monsoon, then there is no need to worry now. By just taking care of some small things and storing them properly, you can keep them fresh for months. Let us know how to store them.

1. Keep it roasted

The oldest and most effective way to protect semolina and gram flour from insects is to lightly fry them. For this, put semolina in the pan and fry it for 4-5 minutes on low flame without ghee or oil. Keep in mind that its color should not change, only its moisture should be lost. Similarly, heat the gram flour lightly for 2-3 minutes. After roasting, let them cool completely and then store. Storing them in a hot container will generate steam and cause them to spoil quickly.

2. Use only airtight containers
During rainy days, never leave semolina and gram flour open in packets or in ordinary boxes. As soon as there is air, they become moist. Always keep them in airtight containers made of glass or good quality plastic. The lid of the box should be tight so that dampness from outside cannot enter inside.

3. Smart use of fridge
If there is a lot of dampness in your kitchen or you do not have time to roast them, then the safest way is to fill the gram flour and semolina in an airtight container or zip-lock bag and keep it in the fridge or freezer. Due to low temperature, they will neither be affected by insects nor will they spoil for months.

4. Home Remedies
Bay leaves and cloves: Put 2-3 bay leaves or 4-5 cloves in the box of semolina and gram flour. This will drive away the insects and they will not spoil quickly.

Dry red chilli: Keeping 1-2 dry red chillies vertically inside the box also helps in preventing insects.
