The Central Election Committee of BJP has released the list of its three candidates for the Rajya Sabha by-election 2026 to be held in West Bengal. BJP has declared Trinamool Congress (TMC) rebel leaders Sushmita Dev, Sukhendu Shekhar Roy and Prakash Chik Baraik as its candidates from West Bengal.
All three leaders have joined BJP from TMC today itself.
These three leaders joined BJP today after resigning from TMC last month. Sukhendu resigned on June 8, Sushmita on June 10 and Prakash on June 11. All three had expressed their displeasure with Mamata and said that the party was being run arbitrarily.

Let us tell you that Mamata Banerjee These three leaders were today inducted into the BJP at the party’s Salt Lake office in the presence of West Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya and other senior leaders, after resigning from TMC amid growing rebellion within the party Trinamool. Samik Bhattacharya welcomed the three leaders by giving them BJP flags and said that their political experience will strengthen the BJP in the state.
When is voting and counting?
Voting and counting will take place on July 24 for the by-elections on these three Rajya Sabha seats of West Bengal. Notification for by-election will be released on July 7. Nominations till 14th July and scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on 15th July.
Mathematics of victory-
As per the current numerical equation in the West Bengal Assembly, BJP candidates are likely to win all three seats. Talking about the Assembly, BJP currently has 208 MLAs. The opposition candidate will need at least 70 votes to defeat the BJP candidate. Trinamool Congress had won 80 seats in this election. Out of these, 60 MLAs have formed a separate faction under the leadership of Ritabrata Banerjee. Mamata Banerjee has only 20 MLAs left.
