New Delhi: Monsoon has now gained momentum across the country, but along with it, heavy rains in many states have become a problem for the people. Due to continuous rains in many areas of hilly states including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, flood like situation has arisen. Roads have been submerged at many places, roads have caved in at some places and incidents of landslides have been reported in many areas. Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department i.e. IMD has issued an alert of heavy rain and storm in many states today.
People and rickshaws were seen floating in the strong current
Due to continuous rain, the flow of water became so strong at many places that people were seen floating in it. In a video, first one person was seen flowing in the strong current, a few moments later another person also got swept away in the same flow. The flow of water was so strong that even a rickshaw standing on the roadside was swept away like paper. Many areas are knee-deep in water, while at many places roads are completely submerged in water.
Waterlogging seen in many districts of Maharashtra
Most of the problems are being seen in Maharashtra due to continuous rains. Bhiwandi is flooded by 3 to 4 feet of water due to continuous rain. Water has entered houses and shops, affecting people’s lives. A landslide occurred at Neyli Ghat on the Mumbai-Goa Highway amid heavy rains in Ratnagiri district. Traffic had to be stopped due to debris on the road. The Meteorological Department has also issued a red alert for this area.
Highway traffic affected in Palghar
Traffic was badly affected due to rain water filling on Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway in Palghar. It has been raining continuously in the district for the last two days. Roads in Mumbai’s Gandhi Market area were filled to the brim with water, causing a traffic jam. In Navi Mumbai, during the rains, an overloaded truck overturned in the middle of the road, affecting traffic.
People washed away in strong current of water in Gujarat
In Gujarat too, the situation has worsened in many districts due to continuous rains. A rickshaw was washed away in the strong current of water in Jamjodhpur, Jamnagar. Meanwhile, two people were also seen floating in the water. However, it is a matter of relief that a person present at the spot saved both of them safely and no one got seriously injured. According to the information, due to heavy rains the water level of rivers and canals has increased, due to which the flow of water has become very fast in many areas.
The first rain in Surat revealed the truth
The very first monsoon rains in smart city Surat raised questions on the preparations of the city administration. Many areas were waterlogged, while at many places roads were submerged by 100 to 700 meters. Many vehicles got stuck due to road subsidence and people had to face a lot of trouble.
Accident while crossing drain in Madhya Pradesh
A tragic accident took place during the rains in Belkheda police station area of Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh. A Bolero going from Mahgawan to Belkheda via Barman was washed away in the strong current while crossing the drain. There were 4 people including the driver in the vehicle. Local administration and police rescued three people safely, but the driver died due to drowning. According to the local administration, the driver underestimated the water flowing over the drain and got off the vehicle, but the vehicle was washed away due to the strong current. Later, when the water level decreased, a relief and rescue operation was conducted and vehicles and people were taken out.
BRO saved patient’s life in Lahaul-Spiti
The effect of monsoon is clearly visible even in the hilly states. In Lahaul-Spiti, Himachal Pradesh, amidst bad weather and difficult conditions, Border Roads Organization (BRO) soldiers successfully rescued a patient. The patient’s life was saved by evacuating him safely with the help of a crane in Lahaul Valley.
Alert of heavy rain and storm in many states
The Meteorological Department has issued warnings of heavy rain, strong winds and thunderstorms in many states of the country including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh. The administration has appealed to the people to stay away from water-logged areas, fast-flowing drains and rivers. Travel only when necessary and follow the guidelines issued by the Meteorological Department. In many parts of the country, monsoon is now becoming a relief as well as a disaster. Due to continuous rains, life is affected and the administration is engaged in relief and rescue operations.
