Final high-speed trial of India’s first hydrogen train successful

Today the final high-speed trial of the country’s first hydrogen train was conducted. The trial of hydrogen train was conducted on Delhi and Jind section. During this time the train ran at a speed of 120 kilometers per hour. During the trials, the train’s braking system, engine efficiency, stability on track and vibration levels were tested. Technical capability and safety standards were observed.

Hydrogen train is completely based on green technology

Let us tell you that this entire trial took place under the supervision of the technical team of Research Designs and Standards Organization. Hydrogen train is completely based on green technology. It causes neither air pollution nor sound pollution. Hydrogen train works on fuel cell technology. During this process, only water and steam are released which is better for the environment.

Hydrogen-powered train will run between Jind and Sonipat

In areas where there is currently no overhead wiring on railway tracks, hydrogen trains can become a better option. India’s first hydrogen-powered train will run between Jind and Sonipat in Haryana. This train will be blue in colour. If everything goes well, this train will be seen running on the tracks from next month.

Can be useful in commercial service also

It is noteworthy that the low-speed trial of the hydrogen train was earlier successful. If the train is successful in the trials, it will be taken forward in the direction of getting approval for commercial service.

Features of hydrogen train

  • The train neither emits smoke nor spreads pollution.
  • It works on fuel cell technology.
  • Hydrogen gas produces electricity from oxygen in the air.
  • The train releases only water and steam.
  • Once filled with fuel, it runs several hundred kilometers.
  • The first hydrogen train will run between Jind and Sonipat.

10-coach hydrogen approved on Jind-Sonipat section

On May 27, Indian Railways approved running a 10-coach hydrogen fuel cell-based train on the Jind-Sonipat section of Northern Railway. According to the Railway Ministry, this train is ready to start soon and will run at a maximum speed of 75 kmph using 1200 KW hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system.
