Shared post with proof
Anu has shared a post regarding this in which she has also shared an old picture as proof of her point. While appreciating audiences demanding better representation of women on screen, she stressed that meaningful change requires accountability from all involved in film production. He wrote, ‘The recent discussions regarding Peddi reminded me of a decision taken long ago. I applaud today’s audiences for speaking out and demanding more dignity in the portrayal of women. But the responsibility does not lie only with the audience. Nor is it just about the filmmakers. Taking this idea forward he said, ‘This is the responsibility of us actors also. More than 30 years ago, after Aashiqui, I made it mandatory to listen to the story before signing a film. Objectification of women was common. I decided to act against that trend. The films I did are testimony to that decision. In many ways, this is the reason why I ultimately stayed away from films.
