Golden days have once again returned for Akshay Kumar at the box office. After a period of unsuccessful films, the veteran actor joined hands with director Priyadarshan for the horror-comedy film ‘Bhoot Bangla’, which has managed to draw the audience to the theatres. The film, released on April 17, has crossed the ₹200 crore worldwide gross, becoming the 12th film in Akshay’s career to touch this milestone.
Box office collection of ‘Bhoot Bangla’
Within just 13 days of its release, ‘Bhoot Bangla’ has collected a net collection of ₹124.50 crore (₹147.90 crore gross) at the Indian box office. The film had a strong opening, collecting ₹58 crore in the first weekend and ₹27 crore in the second weekend. However, in the third weekend it may face tough competition from new releases like ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ and ‘Raja Shivaji’. Talking about the international market, the film’s performance there was average, but still it grossed $5.6 million. With this, the worldwide gross collection of the film has now crossed ₹200 crore.
Did the film prove to be a ‘hit’ at the box office?
According to trade analysts, the production budget of ‘Bhoot Bungalow’ was around ₹100 crore, in which after adding marketing and promotion expenses, its total cost i.e. landing cost comes to around ₹120 crore. To enter the profitable category, the film had to collect more net than its cost in India, which it crossed on the 12th day itself. It is expected to reach ₹150 crore nett in India and ₹250 crore gross globally in its lifetime run. In this respect, ‘Bhoot Bangla’ is being considered a ‘clean hit’, although compared to the budget, it does not fall in the category of blockbuster. There was a time when the pairing of Akshay and Katrina was a hit and both of them gave about 10 hit films continuously. Akshay had also called Katrina his lucky charm. Now Akshay is paired with Vamika, hence she has also proved to be lucky for Akshay.
Place in the top list of horror-comedy
‘Bhoot Bangla’ has made its strong place among the most successful horror-comedy films of Indian cinema and has been included in the top 5 list. According to the data till April 30 (Thursday), the film is at fifth place after ‘Stree 2’, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ and ‘The Raja Saab’. Experts believe that by Friday it will leave behind Prabhas’s film ‘The Raja Saab’. However, it will be challenging for it to reach the huge figures of films like ‘Stree 2’ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’.
