There were speculations for a long time about the sequel of ‘3 Idiots’, one of the most iconic films of Bollywood, but now Aamir Khan himself has officially approved these discussions. Aamir has confirmed that the second part of the film is in the pipeline and acclaimed director Rajkumar Hirani will once again direct the project. This news is no less than a big gift for cinema lovers, because they were waiting for years to see the trio of Rancho, Raju and Farhan back on screen. According to Aamir, work on the script of the film is currently going on and it is going to be a very ‘beautiful story’.
The story will move forward 10 years
The most interesting thing about the sequel of the film is its timeline. It is being told that the story of the sequel will show the circumstances 10 years after the events of the first part. It stars Aamir Khan (Rancho/Phunsukh Wangdu), R. Kareena Kapoor Khan will also be seen along with the lead trio of Madhavan (Farhan) and Sharman Joshi (Raju Rastogi). Vidhu Vinod Chopra will produce this film. During an interview, Aamir revealed that Abhijat Joshi and Rajkumar Hirani have woven the story in a very unique and witty way, which will serve something new to the audience while maintaining the soul of the original film.
Aamir excited on Phunsukh Wangdu’s return
Aamir Khan has expressed his eagerness to relive the iconic character of ‘Phunsukh Wangdu’. He said, ‘Raju is currently working on ‘3 Idiots 2’. I have heard the story and it is really amazing. The script still needs a little more work, but the basic idea is very impressive and unique. After the failure of ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ in 2022, Aamir recently returned to the big screen with ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’. In such a situation, being associated with a big brand like ‘3 Idiots’ is going to be very exciting for both his career and fans.
The legacy and historical success of ‘3 Idiots’
The 2009 film ‘3 Idiots’, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, was not just a film but a cultural revolution. Based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel ‘Five Point Someone’, the film was a sharp attack on the Indian education system and the social pressures placed on students. In the film, Boman Irani played the memorable roles of ‘Virus’ (Principal) and Omi Vaidya played the memorable roles of ‘Chatur’. The film became the first Indian film to gross ₹400 crore globally and set new box office records in the overseas markets. The legacy of this film, which won three National Awards, is still alive through TV and OTT. Now it remains to be seen whether this sequel will also be able to repeat the same magic that had taught an entire generation to say ‘all is well’.
