25 years after ‘Lagaan’, Aamir Khan joins hands with Ashutosh Gowarikar again

Twenty-five years ago, Aamir Khan and Ashutosh Gowarikar made a film that created history and gave Indian cinema global recognition. This film was ‘Lagaan’, which was released in 2001 and was also nominated for Oscar. This film was not just a film but a complete experience. It has been 25 years of Lagaan and now the buzz is that Aamir Khan is going to join hands with Ashutosh Gowariker once again and the special thing is that this too will be a sports drama.

According to a report in Pinkvilla, Aamir Khan and Ashutosh Gowarikar are coming together for a film based on the life of ‘Father of Indian Cricket’ legendary Lala Amarnath. The film is currently in the advanced scripting stage and several script reading sessions have been completed. It is being told that the film will be based on the backdrop of the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947 and is an emotional and inspirational sports drama.

Aamir had recently told that he is going to start shooting not one or two but three films from September 2026. According to reports, Aamir is coming up with a drama based on filmmaker Rahul Modi’s startup, which will also star Shraddha Kapoor and will then be seen in the sequel of the much-awaited film ‘3 Idiots’ along with Aamir, Vicky Kaushal, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi. Shooting for the sequel of 3 Idiots is scheduled to begin in 2027.

Talking about Lagaan, ‘Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India’, released in 2001, is a historical sports drama film. It was written and directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar, while Aamir Khan produced the film under his production and also played the lead role in it.
