The craze for electric vehicles (EV) is increasing rapidly in Delhi. The effect of the government’s strict policies to reduce pollution, action on old petrol-diesel vehicles and subsidies on electric vehicles is now clearly visible. In the last three years, sales of electric vehicles in the capital Delhi have increased more than six times. It is clear from this that now people are preferring electric vehicles (cars/bikes) instead of petrol and diesel vehicles.
EV sales increased six times in three years
According to the data, in the year 2024, an average of 1,038 electric vehicles were registered every month in Delhi. In 2026, this number will increase to around 7,000 per month. This means that in just three years, there has been an increase of more than six times in EV sales.
The effect of government’s strictness is visible
There is already a ban on 10 year old diesel and 15 year old petrol vehicles in Delhi-NCR. Last year, the government took strict action against such vehicles and also started confiscating them. Apart from this, the entry of diesel vehicles into Delhi is also banned when the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) is implemented. These strict rules have attracted people towards electric vehicles.
Options for electric vehicles increased in the market
Earlier the options for electric cars were limited in the market, but now almost all the big automobile companies have launched their electric models. Luxury car manufacturing companies have also now entered the EV segment. With this, customers have started getting many options as per their need and budget.
Beneficial for both environment and pocket
Electric vehicles not only help in reducing pollution, but also provide relief from the rising expenses of petrol and diesel. EV demand in Delhi is expected to grow rapidly in the coming years due to improvements in charging infrastructure and government incentives. This is the reason why the capital Delhi is now gradually moving towards electric mobility.
