After the disappointing performance in IPL for the second consecutive year, there were intense discussions about changes in the camp of Chennai Super Kings. Some fans on social media even started a campaign to remove Fleming. But now it is clear that the franchise continues to have faith in its most trusted face. The team management still has faith in Stephen Fleming and he will remain the head coach of CSK in the next season also. According to the report of Cricbuzz, Chennai Super Kings is not preparing any changes at the top level in its coaching staff. Former New Zealand captain Fleming has been associated with the franchise since 2008 and has been serving as the head coach since 2009.
Confidence maintained despite continued poor performance
The last two seasons have been very disappointing for CSK. The team finished 10th in the points table in 2025, whereas in the recently concluded season it had to settle for eighth place. Despite this, the franchise wants to continue its journey with Fleming. Fleming’s contract is renewed every year and according to the report, his contract will be extended this time too. CSK management is considering it almost certain.
Fleming is currently in America, where he is playing the role of head coach of CSK’s associate team Texas Super Kings in Major League Cricket (MLC). The franchise is currently eyeing the MLC season and a detailed review of the IPL season will be conducted after it ends. Although many important decisions can be taken in the review meeting, Fleming’s role will not be a topic of discussion in them. It is being considered as a pre-decided decision within the team.
There is silence in the trade market at the moment
Another thing that becomes clear from the news of Fleming’s retention is that Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s influence is still very strong in the franchise. Dhoni and Fleming’s professional partnership goes back years and the bond has only grown stronger with time. Dhoni’s opinion has always been important in CSK’s decisions and this stance taken regarding Fleming is being considered as another example of that trust.
The report also states that CSK has definitely received trade inquiries regarding some players, but there has been no discussion regarding Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya. On June 22, there were speculations that Khalil Ahmed and David Miller could be swapped between CSK and Delhi Capitals, but both the franchises completely rejected these reports.
