The Commonwealth Games 2026 started with the opening ceremony from 23rd July, in which this time these games are being organized in the city of Glasgow, Scotland. On the first day, an excellent performance of Indian players was seen in the lawn balls event. Even before the opening ceremony, good news for India came from the boxing event in which the medal was confirmed by Lovlina Borgohain reaching the semi-finals directly. Now everyone’s eyes are on the events to be held on the second day i.e. 24th July, in which there will be around 14 medal events throughout the day. In this, Srihari Nataraj, who has participated in the Olympics, will also be seen in action in the swimming event. On the second day, Indian players will present challenges in artistic gymnastics, para powerlifting, swimming, lawn balls and boxing.
Hopes to maintain the momentum in lawn balls
The Indian lawn bowls team made a great start to its campaign as the women’s pairs pair of Rupa Rani Turki and Pinky will face Thabelo Muvhango and Jackie van Rensburg of South Africa in the sectional round-2. In the sectional round-2 of men’s singles lawn balls, India’s Putul Sonowal will face Cecil Alexander of Falkland Islands. Apart from this, Tapeshwarnath Das, Swathish KP, Tapan Mohanty and Yogeshwar Singh will be seen in action in the individual qualification along with the gymnastics men’s team final. Whereas in swimming, Srihari Nataraj will participate in 50 meter backstroke heats and if he succeeds in qualifying then he will be able to make his place for the semi-final event.
Highest hopes of winning medal in Para Powerlifting
On the second day of CWG 2026, seven Indian Para Powerlifting players will challenge to win medals in six events. In this, Shok Kumar Malik and Paramjit Kumar will compete in the men’s para powerlifting lightweight final. Whereas in women’s para powerlifting, Jaspreet Kaur and Suman Devi will present challenge in the lightweight category.
