Host America continued its excellent performance by defeating Australia 2-0 in Group D of the FIFA World Cup 2026. With this spectacular victory, the American team has confirmed its place in the next round of the tournament i.e. ‘Round of 32’. In this exciting match played at Seattle Stadium, American players adopted an aggressive stance from the beginning. He established his complete dominance over the opposing team by scoring two goals in the first half of the match itself.
USA account opened due to mistake of opposition team
America started putting pressure on Australia from the very beginning of the match. America scored its first goal in the 11th minute of the game. American player Folarin Balogun threw a low cross pass to score the goal. While trying to stop it and push it away, Australian defender Cameron Burgess made a big mistake. The ball went straight into his own goal post. Due to this own goal, America got an early lead of 1-0 and from here the Australian team came under a lot of pressure.
Alex Freeman gave Australia a strong lead
The United States doubled its lead just before the end of the first half. Sergino Dest made an excellent attempt to score in the 43rd minute of the match. Meanwhile, taking advantage of an opportunity, Alex Freeman made a brilliant header from inside the D-box and sent the ball straight into the goal post. Video review (VAR) was also done for some time regarding this goal, but in the end the referee declared it absolutely correct. In this way, America was ahead 2-0 till half-time.
Australia’s attempts to return failed
After falling behind by two goals, the Australian team tried its best to make a comeback in the second half. Their players also made some good attacks in the American court, but it proved impossible for them to penetrate America’s strong defense. The American players maintained their lead till the last minute of the match and did not give Australia a single chance to score.
USA team reached the next stage
With this victory, America registered its second consecutive win in Group-D. This is only the second time in the history of the World Cup that the American team has started its journey with two consecutive wins. While on one hand America has reached the knockout round, on the other hand, the path ahead has become very difficult for Australia after this defeat.
