What do the black, green, red, blue colored stripes at the bottom of the toothpaste tube mean?

The first thing people do every morning after waking up is brushing their teeth. People use different types of toothpaste to clean teeth. But have you ever noticed that there is a color bar on the bottom side of toothpaste? Different colors are given on different toothpastes. Do you know what these colored stripes mean? What do these color bars indicate? Let us know.

what is illusion

A message often goes viral on WhatsApp and Facebook, in which information about these strips is given.

  • Green colour: The toothpaste is completely natural.
  • Blue colour: Natural + containing medicine.
  • Red colour: Mixture of natural + chemical.
  • Black colour: completely chemical.

But you will be surprised to know that this is completely wrong. These stripes on the tube of any toothpaste have nothing to do with the ingredients of the paste.

The real truth about stripes of different colors
These colored stripes on toothpaste tubes are called “eye marks” or “color marks” in technical language. Their purpose is not to provide information to the consumer, but to provide instructions to the machines during the manufacturing process.

How do machines work?
In toothpaste manufacturing factories, tubes are prepared in the form of a long strip. When it comes to filling and cutting these tubes, high-speed machines fill the paste into them. The ‘optical sensors’ installed in the tube making machine recognize these strips. This mark tells the sensor where the end of the tube ends, so the machine can cut and seal it in the right place. This strip also tells the machine which way to bend the tube.

Why are the colors different?
If these bars mean the same thing, then why do they have different colors? There is a technical reason behind this also.

The sensor requires contrast to read the ‘eye mark’. The color is chosen to be in contrast to the color of the tube so that the sensor can easily identify it. If the tube is light in color, a dark color such as black or blue is used. Color selection is often based on the packaging design and branding. If a company’s packaging contains a lot of red, they choose a red stripe so that additional colors are not needed during printing.
