How much water will be used to make one cup of Rava Upma?

For 1 cup of rava, 2 to 2.5 cups of water is used. If you like softer upma, you can add two and a half cups of water, but for a light grainy texture, 2 cups of water is sufficient. By adding the right amount of water, the upma becomes neither too dry nor sticky.

1 cup rava (semolina), 2 to 2½ cups water, 1 onion finely chopped, 1-2 green chillies, curry leaves, mustard and urad dal, 1-2 teaspoons oil or ghee, salt as per taste, seasonal vegetables

  • step 1: First of all, fry the semolina on low flame until it becomes light golden. This makes the upma tasty and grainy.

  • Step 2: Heat oil or ghee in a pan. Add mustard seeds, urad dal, curry leaves and green chillies and fry. Then add onion and cook until it turns light pink. You can also add seasonal vegetables to it

  • Step 3: Now add 2 to 2½ cups of water in the pan and add salt. Let the water boil.

  • Step 4: Gradually add roasted rava and keep stirring continuously so that lumps do not form.

  • Step 5: Cover and cook on low flame for 2-3 minutes. When rava absorbs water, turn off the gas. Serve hot upma with coconut chutney or tea.
