Former BJP state president of Tamil Nadu K. Annamalai has formally resigned from BJP. After resigning, Annamalai has launched a new political movement ‘We the Leaders’, which has attracted more than 10 lakh people within a few hours of its launch and people are continuously joining it. Annamalai, who has left the BJP, has called upon people with enthusiasm for education, health, sustainability and youth leadership to join his party, terming this movement as the beginning of a new political journey.

Annamalai has been a former Indian Police Service officer i.e. IPS. Leaving the police service, he entered politics and became the state president of BJP. After that, after resigning from the party. Annamalai shared the link of the official website of his new political party ‘We The Leaders’ in a post on social media platform X. His We The Leaders Movement has received the support of lakhs of people within a few hours. In the caption of her post, Annamalai said, ‘Let’s move forward, take action and bring change. Join us here to start our political movement.’

Who is Annamalai?
K Annamalai had chosen his name himself in 10th class. In his childhood, his parents named him Shiva Senthil Kumar, after which his full name became ‘Annamalai Shiva Senthil Kumar’, but this name was too long for the school certificate. When he was asked about his choice of name in class 10th, he chose the short name ‘Annamalai’. In an interview in 2020, he had told the meaning of his name, he had said that it is the name of the fierce form of Lord Shiva.
How did Annamalai come to BJP?
In the year 2020, inspired by PM Modi, Annamalai resigned from civil service and joined BJP. He was made the state BJP vice president in Tamil Nadu. After that he was made the party chief of Tamil Nadu. His age at that time was only 37 years. After that he was also made election co-in-charge in the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections.
Why did Annamalai leave BJP?
In April 2025, the party high command removed Annamalai from the post of president and after that Annamalai was completely sidelined from the campaign and important decision-making processes for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Angered by this, he refused to contest the elections. Along with this, he had openly raised questions on some policies of the Central Government. After that, the bitterness increased when he was ignored in the matters of choosing candidates, distributing seats and managing alliances.
