Sambalpur: Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday took major action against two employees of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science and Research (VIMSAR) located at Burla in Sambalpur district in a disproportionate assets case. Different Vigilance teams started simultaneous raids at a total of nine locations linked to both the employees. During this period, 20 plots, Rs 19.72 lakh cash, several vehicles and other properties have been recovered from an employee. The search operation is still going on in both the cases.
Simultaneous raid on 4 locations of Biswal
The first action was taken against VIMSAR Establishment Officer-cum-Office Superintendent Dhanurdhar Biswal. He is accused of amassing wealth beyond his known income. Based on the search warrant issued by the Special Judge (Vigilance), Sambalpur, the Vigilance team simultaneously raided four of their locations. This operation is being led by a team of two DSPs, 5 Inspectors, 3 ASIs and other employees.
Many properties in the name of Biswal and family
The four places where searches are being conducted include a 2-storey house at Dhankauda in Sambalpur, a building at Gudesinga, government residence at VIMSAR Medical Staff Colony and his office room at VIMSAR, Burla. Initial investigation by Vigilance has revealed several properties in the name of archer Biswal and his family. These include a two-storey house of about 1,650 sq ft in Dhankauda, another building in Gudesinga and 20 valuable plots located on the outskirts of Sambalpur city.

Information about many vehicles was also found in the investigation.
During the search, cash worth Rs 19 lakh 72 thousand 490 has been recovered so far. Apart from this, gold jewelery is being weighed and evaluated. Vigilance is also examining bank accounts, post office savings schemes and other financial investments. One highway truck, one four-wheeler, two tractors and three two-wheelers have also been found in the investigation. The sources of purchase and income of all these are being investigated.
Action started against Ashwini Mehar also
Meanwhile, Odisha Vigilance has also initiated action against steward Ashwini Mehar working in the office of Superintendent of VIMSAR on charges of disproportionate assets. In the case of Ashwini Mehar, the Vigilance team has simultaneously raided five places in Sambalpur and Bargarh districts. This operation is being led by a team of 5 DSPs, 5 Inspectors, three ASIs and other employees. This action is also being taken on the basis of search warrant issued by Special Judge (Vigilance), Sambalpur.
Legal action after completion of raid
The five places linked to Ashwini Mehar where searches are underway include the government residence at VIMSAR Medical Staff Colony, a four-storey building under construction in Saurav Vihar, Burla, a house at Pathanbandh, a building at Govindpali in Bargarh district and her office room at VIMSAR, Burla. Odisha Vigilance said that searches and verification of documents are still going on in both the cases. After completion of the raid, a final assessment of the recovered properties will be done and further legal action will be taken based on the investigation. (Report: Shubham Kumar)
