Congress made Meenakshi Natarajan its candidate
Congress has fielded Meenakshi Natarajan from Madhya Pradesh as its Rajya Sabha candidate against BJP’s Mahesh Kewat. Elections are to be held on three Rajya Sabha seats from Madhya Pradesh. BJP candidates’ victory on two of these seats is certain. At the same time, there will be a contest between BJP and Congress for the third seat. Tarun Chugh and Rajneesh Aggarwal have already filed nomination in Rajya Sabha as BJP candidates. The number of effective votes in the total 230 member assembly of Madhya Pradesh is 228. In this, BJP has 164 MLAs and Congress has 64 MLAs. However, the number of Congress MLAs has reduced to 62 only. Because, there is a ban on the voting of MLA Mukesh Malhotra and the situation is not clear regarding the voting of Bina MLA Nirmala Sapre, her inclination is towards BJP.
Elections will be held on June 18
Elections for 24 Rajya Sabha seats from 10 states including Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Manipur and Karnataka will be held on June 18. Karnataka Legislative Council elections will also be held on June 18. In Madhya Pradesh, a candidate needs 58 votes to become an MP. In such a situation, two BJP candidates are certain to win and Congress has enough votes to make the third candidate win, but BJP has increased Congress’s worries by fielding a third candidate. In such cases there is always a possibility of cross voting.
