Important tour announced amid preparations for ODI World Cup and WTC, a total of 8 matches will be played in all three formats

Big news has come for cricket fans. This news is related to the Asian team Sri Lanka cricket team. Sri Lanka’s tour of West Indies has been announced. The Sri Lankan team will tour West Indies in June-July this year. This tour will be played in all three formats, which include 3 ODIs, 3 T20Is and 2 Test matches. This series is considered very important for both the teams, because while on one hand there will be an opportunity to prepare for the 2027 Cricket World Cup, on the other hand the Test matches will be a part of the ICC World Test Championship.

When and where will the matches take place?

Sri Lanka’s West Indies tour will begin from June 3 with the ODI series, all matches of which will be played at Sabina Park in Kingston. After this, the T20 series will also be held here from June 11. The Test series will start from June 25 in Antigua, where 2 Test matches will be played between the two teams. There will also be a four-day warm-up match before the Test series.

Why is this tour important for both the teams?

Sri Lanka is currently placed fifth in the WTC points table and has played only 2 Tests, so the team would like to score as many points as possible in the initial phase. Whereas West Indies has not registered a single win yet despite playing 8 Tests, hence the team would like to start winning from this series. The last encounter between the two teams took place in Sri Lanka in October 2024, where the host team performed brilliantly and won in all formats. The last white-ball series was played in 2021, in which Sri Lanka also won.

Recently both the teams were also seen playing in the ICC T20 World Cup. Sri Lanka performed well in the group stage, but could not maintain the momentum in the Super Six. West Indies, on the other hand, played consistently well but were eliminated after losing the crucial match against India in Kolkata. In such a situation, this tour will be a golden opportunity for both the teams to strengthen their preparations before the upcoming big tournaments.
