Team India managed to win the first match of the three-match ODI series played between India and England at the Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham by 6 wickets. This is the first win for Team India after losing 6 consecutive matches on the UK tour. The biggest hero of the Indian team’s victory in the first ODI was spin all-rounder Akshar Patel, who made important contributions with both ball and bat. While Akshar Patel took 4 wickets in bowling, he scored an unbeaten inning of 57 runs with his bat. Due to this, Akshar Patel also became a part of the special club of Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.
Akshar became the sixth Indian to score more than 50 runs and take four or more wickets in an ODI match.
Axar Patel has improved a lot in his batting in the last few years, the effect of which is now visible on the field as well. In the Edgbaston ODI match against England, when Team India lost its fourth wicket at the score of 160, Axar Patel was sent to bat. While Akshar batted aggressively without any pressure and scored an unbeaten 57 runs with the help of 5 fours and a six in 52 balls, he along with Sundar returned after making a partnership of 102 runs for the sixth wicket, leading the team to victory. With this, Akshar Patel is now only the sixth Indian player to score 50 or more runs and take more than four wickets in an ODI match. Earlier, while Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh have achieved this feat twice, Sachin Tendulkar, K Srikkanth and Hardik Pandya have managed to achieve this feat once each.

Akshar Patel also received the Player of the Match award for his excellent all-round performance in the first match of the ODI series against England. With this, he has become the fourth Indian player to win this award against England in all three formats. Before Akshar Patel, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav have been successful in achieving this feat.
