Thanks to the brilliant performance of its fast bowlers, Zimbabwe has defeated Bangladesh by 25 runs in the first ODI. Batting first in this low scoring match, Zimbabwe’s team was reduced to just 141 runs. Bangladesh’s fast bowler Nahid Rana bowled brilliantly and took 6 wickets for 21 runs. This is the best performance by any Bangladeshi bowler in the history of ODI cricket. But in response, Bangladesh’s batsmen could not face Zimbabwe’s fast bowlers on the difficult Harare pitch and the entire team was out for just 116 runs.
Newman Nyamahuri scored the most runs for Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe’s performance while batting first was very poor. Five batsmen of the team crossed double figures. Newman Nyamahuri, who came at number nine, scored the highest 33 runs, in his innings he hit five fours. Captain and number 10 batsman Richard Nagarava scored 27 runs with the help of three fours. Innocent Kaya, who came at number three, scored 26 runs. Zimbabwe’s middle order was a complete flop. Craig Irwin (0), Sikandar Raza (1), Wesley Madhevere (0), Clive Madande (0) could not score double digit scores.
Bangladeshi batsmen also flopped in this match
In reply, Bangladesh’s batsmen could not stand against Zimbabwe’s bowlers and the entire team collapsed for 116 runs. The host team Zimbabwe used only four bowlers in the match and all of them were fast bowlers. Together, these four showed the way to the pavilion to all the batsmen of Bangladesh. Only three batsmen of Bangladesh could cross the double figure. For Bangladesh, Nurul Hasan scored the highest score of 31 runs, while Tauhid Hriday contributed 25 runs.
Richard Nagarava and Brad Evans got 3-3 wickets
Richard Nagarava and Brad Evans took 3-3 wickets for Zimbabwe. Whereas Blessing Muzarabani and Newman Nyamahuri got 2-2 wickets. Nyamahuri was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his brilliant performance as he bowled, batted as well as fielded and took two catches. With this spectacular victory, Nagarava has started his journey as captain with a win.
