At the same time, Ramesh Chennithala is an organization man. He has also been the President of Youth Congress in the past and is currently in-charge of Maharashtra Congress. Ramesh Chennithala is a senior and experienced Congress leader. In the Kerala Assembly elections 2026, he has been elected MLA from Haripad Assembly seat for a record sixth time. Before this, he had also been a Lok Sabha MP 4 times. He has also served as the Leader of Opposition in the Kerala Assembly. Ramesh Chennathala started his career from NSUI.

In the Kerala Assembly elections 2026, Congress has single-handedly won 63 seats. At the same time, its ally IUML has won 22 seats. A meeting of Congress MLAs has taken place in Kerala. The final decision has to be taken by the Congress high command.
