Major progress in investigation of AI-171 plane crash, detailed investigation of every evidence continues: AAIB


New Delhi: The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), which is investigating the horrific plane crash of Air India flight AI-171 in Ahmedabad, has said that significant progress has been made in the investigation. According to the Bureau, considerable success has been achieved in the investigation and analysis of the plane’s systems, flight recorder data, engine-related parts and other important evidence. In an interim statement issued on Friday, the AAIB said that over the past year, the investigation team has conducted a comprehensive and thorough investigation of all technical, operational, organizational and human aspects related to the accident.

‘The evidence is being analyzed thoroughly’

AAIB said that the cooperation of recognized representatives of various related institutions, technical advisors and subject experts was also taken in this work. The bureau said the aircraft’s technical systems, data from flight recorders, engine-related instruments, maintenance records, operational documents and other critical evidence have been examined in detail. The evidence collected so far and the results of various tests are being analyzed thoroughly and thoroughly.

A total of 260 people died in the accident

According to AAIB, additional technical assessment and expert-level investigation will also be conducted where necessary, so that all findings of the investigation are based on proven evidence and scientific analysis. Let us tell you that Air India flight AI-171 crashed on June 12, 2025, shortly after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. A total of 260 people, including 229 passengers, 12 crew members and 19 people on the ground, died in the accident of the Boeing 787-8 aircraft.

‘Completely committed to evidence based investigation’

The AAIB said it is fully committed to a fair, independent, objective and evidence-based investigation. The final investigation report will be issued after completion of all investigation procedures and completion of the international review and consultation process prescribed under Annex-13 of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The Bureau expressed its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of all those who lost their lives in the accident, saying that it understands the pain and suffering of all those affected by this accident.

‘The purpose of investigation is not to determine blame’

AAIB said that this investigation is being conducted in accordance with the standards and guidelines prescribed in the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation Rules, 2017 and ICAO Annex-13. The preliminary report related to the accident was released on 12 July 2025. The Bureau clarified that the purpose of any aircraft accident investigation is not to determine fault or determine legal responsibility, but to learn from the accident and strengthen aviation safety in the future.

‘Avoid drawing hasty conclusions’

The AAIB has appealed to the media and the general public to avoid making any speculations or drawing hasty conclusions before the investigation is completed. The Bureau assured that every aspect of the accident will be investigated with utmost care and seriousness, so that the final report and safety recommendations win the confidence of all parties and help in further strengthening civil aviation safety in the country.
