Major action has been taken against corruption in Koraput district of Odisha. Lakhs of rupees in cash in the form of bundles of Rs 500 each have been seized from the house of the accused government official. Odisha Vigilance arrests Deputy Director (Geology)-cum-Deputy Director of Mines Satyajit Raut, posted in Jaipur, for Rs 2 lakh Bribe Has been arrested red handed while taking. During this vigilance action, the entire bribe amount was recovered from the accused. Apart from this, during the search, Rs 2.90 lakh cash was also found from his house. In this way a total of Rs 4.90 lakh cash has been seized.
Bribe was demanded for the lease of sand ghat
According to the information, Satyajit Raut is working as Deputy Director (Geology)-cum-Deputy Director of Mines in the office of Deputy Director of Mines, Jaipur. He is accused of demanding a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from a leaseholder in exchange for approving the extension of the sand ghat’s lease after the expiry of its lease period and giving him benefit in the future spot auction process.
Vigilance team laid a trap
After receiving the complaint, Odisha Vigilance planned and laid a trap. As soon as the accused officer took a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from the complainant, the Vigilance team caught him on the spot. The entire bribe amount was recovered from their possession and confiscated.
Raids conducted at several locations
After the arrest, Vigilance started searching at several places simultaneously to investigate the property of the accused. Raids were conducted at a residence in Lingaraj Nagar in Jaipur, a house in Vidyadharpur in Cuttack and a house in Olkana in Mahanga.
Total cash of Rs 4.90 lakh seized
During the search, Rs 2.90 lakh in cash was recovered from the house in Jaipur, which has been confiscated. A total of Rs 4.90 lakh in cash has been seized so far, including Rs 2 lakh as bribe and Rs 2.90 lakh found from home.
Investigation also started on the case of disproportionate assets
In this matter, case number 14/2026 has been registered at Koraput Vigilance Police Station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Vigilance has started investigation into the case and interrogation of the accused officer is going on. Vigilance is also investigating the accused from the aspect of disproportionate assets.
