Supreme Court Chief Justice Justice Surya Kant has given clarification on his cockroach statement regarding media and advocacy profession. He said that a section of the media had misrepresented his statement. The CJI said that he takes inspiration from every youth and sees them as the pillars of developed India. CJI Surya Kant had on Friday compared some unemployed youth to cockroaches and said that they later become media, social media and RTI activists and then start attacking the system.
Clarifying on his statement, the Chief Justice said, “I am saddened to read how a section of the media has misquoted what I said yesterday during the hearing of a frivolous case. I had specifically criticized those people who have come into professions like bar (legal profession) with the help of fake and bogus degrees. Similar people have also infiltrated into media, social media and other good professions and hence, they are like parasites.”
Every youth of India inspires me – CJI
CJI Surya Kant said, “It is completely baseless to say that I have maligned the youth of our country. I am not only proud of our present and future human resources, but every youth of India inspires me. It would be no exaggeration to say that the Indian youth respect me a lot and I too see them as the pillars of a developed India,” Chief Justice of India Surya Kant clarified on his yesterday’s statement on youth, which was quoted in a media report. The part was quoted incorrectly.
The lawyer was reprimanded
The CJI on Friday had reprimanded a lawyer who was continuously trying to achieve the status of senior advocate. A bench of CJI Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi had said, “The whole world may be eligible to become a senior advocate, but at least you are not eligible for it.” The CJI had expressed displeasure and said that even if the Delhi High Court grants the status of senior advocate to the petitioner, the top court will cancel it considering his professional conduct. Referring to the language used by the petitioner on Facebook, the CJI had said, “Some youth are like cockroaches, who neither get any employment nor have any place in any profession. Some of them go into the field of media, some become social media activists, some become RTI activists and other activists and then they start attacking everyone.
