Rekha Gupta’s government has made a major change in the rules of free bus travel for women passengers traveling in Delhi’s DTC and cluster buses from August 1. Now, to avail the benefit of free travel, it will be mandatory for women to carry Pink Saheli smart card and tap it while boarding the bus. The Paper Pink tickets available till now will be closed after July 31. The special thing is that this card can also be used in Delhi Metro and Namo Bharat (RRTS).
According to Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), paper pink tickets will be issued to women till July 31. But from August 1, only those women who have a valid Pink Saheli smart card will be able to travel free. While boarding the bus it will be necessary to tap the card on the machine. Those who do not have a card will have to pay the normal fare.
Who can get Pink Saheli Smart Card made?
The benefit of this scheme will be available to all girls/women of 5 years of age and above and transgender citizens of Delhi. There is no income limit condition for this. However, it is necessary to have Delhi address on the Aadhar card of the applicant. Aadhaar cards of Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram or other NCR areas will not be valid.
How to get Pink Saheli Smart Card?
Pink Saheli Smart Card can be made from more than 50 authorized centers in Delhi. These include DTC depots, SDM offices and special camps. For application, Aadhaar card (with Delhi address), mobile number linked to it and passport size photograph will be required at some centres. The card will be issued immediately after Aadhaar based OTP or biometric verification. The facility of taking tokens online by scanning QR codes has also been started at many centres, through which long queues can be avoided.
Metro and Namo will be useful in India also
Pink Saheli smart card is based on National Common Mobility Card (NCMC). There will be no recharge required for free travel in DTC and cluster buses. But if you want to travel in Delhi Metro or Namo Bharat (RRTS) with this card, then the card will have to be recharged. That means, with a single card, you will get both the facilities of free travel in bus and cashless payment in Metro and Namo Bharat.

Delhi Government and DTC have appealed to women passengers to get Pink Saheli Smart Card made before August 1. With this, free bus travel will continue without any hassle and in future the use of public transport will also become easier than before.
