Yamuna Expressway journey can be expensive, proposal to increase toll rates by 5%

If you often travel to Delhi, Noida or Agra via Yamuna Expressway, it may put a bigger burden on your pocket in the coming days. The company operating the expressway has sent a proposal to Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) to increase toll rates by about 5%. If the proposal is approved then travel on Yamuna Expressway will become expensive for all vehicles including cars, buses, trucks.

According to the information, toll rates on the expressway were last increased in October 2024. At that time the toll had increased by about 3.78%. Now once again preparations have started to implement new rates. Toll collection work on Yamuna Expressway is being done by Jaiprakash Associates Limited (JAL). The company has proposed to increase the toll citing increase in security, maintenance and operating expenses.

How much can toll rates increase?

According to the proposed new rates, toll may become costlier in all categories from two-wheelers to heavy vehicles. The possible new rates could be as follows.

  • Two-wheelers: Increase from ₹247.5 to ₹256.16
  • Car/Jeep: Increase from ₹486.75 to ₹503.79
  • Light Commercial Vehicles: Increase from ₹759 to ₹785.57
  • Bus/Truck: Increase from ₹1542.75 to ₹1596.75
  • Heavy vehicles: increased from ₹2351.25 to ₹2433.54

Why is increase necessary?

Yamuna Expressway management says that expenditure on road safety, repair and modern facilities is continuously increasing. The number of vehicles on the expressway has increased rapidly, due to which the maintenance cost has also increased. According to officials, revision of toll rates has become necessary to maintain better safety and facilities of the expressway.

Traffic will increase further from Jewar Airport

Experts believe that after the opening of Noida International Airport, the traffic on Yamuna Expressway will increase manifold. In such a situation, additional resources will be required to keep the expressway better and safe. This is the reason why preparations are being made to increase the toll from now on.

Passengers’ worries may increase

However, the news of increase in toll has increased the concern of people traveling daily. Especially people traveling between Delhi-NCR, Agra and Noida may have to bear higher expenses every month.
