The 33rd league match of the 19th season of the Indian Premier League was played between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium. In this match, CSK completely dominated with bat and ball, in which they managed to win the match by a huge margin of 103 runs. When Mumbai Indians were chasing the target of 208 runs in this match, after the fall of the sixth wicket, Shardul Thakur was sent to bat on the field, who was neither a part of the playing 11 of Mumbai Indians in this match nor was he included in the impact players list.
Shardul Thakur got place as concussion substitute
In this match, when Mumbai Indians came out to bowl first after winning the toss, Mitchell Santner, part of their playing 11, injured his shoulder while trying to catch the catch of CSK team batsman Karthik Sharma on the fifth ball of the 17th over of the innings which was bowled by Jasprit Bumrah. Santner took this catch but immediately after that he had to leave the field. In such a situation, in his place, Mumbai Indians demanded a concussion substitute and made Shardul Thakur a part of their playing 11 in the middle of the match. However, Shardul Thakur could not do anything special with the bat and returned to the pavilion after scoring only 6 runs in 12 balls.
CSK becomes the team that has won the most matches against Mumbai in IPL
While Chennai Super Kings have achieved their biggest win in terms of difference of runs in IPL history, this is also Mumbai Indians’ biggest defeat in IPL so far by difference of runs. Apart from this, Mumbai Indians have now reached the first position in terms of winning the most number of matches against Mumbai Indians in the IPL, in which they have left behind the Punjab Kings team. CSK now has 19 wins in the IPL against Mumbai Indians while Punjab Kings at second place have won 18 matches against MI in the IPL.
