Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday laid the foundation stone of the new metro corridor to be built from Indralok to Indraprastha under Delhi Metro Phase-4 at Sarai Rohilla Metro Station complex. After the completion of this project, travel between Central Delhi, West Delhi and Old Delhi will become easier and faster than before. According to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), this corridor will directly benefit about 1.5 lakh passengers every day.
According to DMRC, this new corridor will be an extension of the Magenta Line. Its total length will be 12.30 kilometers, on which 10 new metro stations will be built. About 11.35 km portion of the project will be underground, while about 1 km portion will be elevated. Tunnel construction will be the biggest challenge in this project as it passes through densely populated areas. For this, modern technology and special machines will be used so that there is minimal impact on the surrounding population and traffic.
Direct metro facility will be available till Delhi Secretariat
The biggest feature of this new corridor will be that Delhi Secretariat will get direct metro connectivity for the first time. At present, passengers going to the Secretariat have to take auto or cab after getting down at ITO metro station. After the opening of the corridor, people will be able to reach the Secretariat directly by metro, which will save time and make travel more convenient.
Indralok and New Delhi will become triple interchange stations.
After the completion of this project, Delhi Metro network will become even stronger. Indralok and New Delhi Metro stations will become triple interchange stations. Currently, interchange of Yellow Line and Airport Express Line is available at New Delhi station. After the connection of the new corridor, Magenta Line will also come here, making it a triple interchange station. Similarly, at Indralok station also, passengers will get the facility to easily interchange between three different metro lines.
There will be less problem of jam and traffic
With the opening of this new metro corridor, the pressure of vehicles on the roads of the capital will reduce. A large number of people will leave their personal vehicles and use the metro, which is expected to reduce both traffic jams and pollution. Apart from this, people living in Old Delhi, Karol Bagh, Sarai Rohilla, Indralok and surrounding areas will also get faster and better public transport facilities.
